Acne scars can be just as embarrassing as acne itself. Although acne usually strikes in the teenage years, the acne scars may linger well in to adulthood and in most cases remain visible for the rest of one’s life. There are solutions and by going to the doctor to get acne scar reduction treatments some of those awful acne scars can be greatly reduced- and in some cases nearly vanish right off the face.

Acne scars can take many shapes and sizes. One of the most common are pitted acne scars- where a cavernous pock mark is visible on the face. These pitted acne scars range in depth and severity depending on the person and their former acne.

Pitted acne scars usually can react well to laser resurfacing treatment. If the pitted scar is not too deep then the laser can effectively target the scar tissue area and remove the first layer of skin where the scar is most visible. When the treatment is done the new layers of skin shows through and the scarring now looks minimal. Laser acne scar removal is very safe- the only risks involved are generally when a dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon does not know what they are doing or messes up the treatment. Burning could result. The best way to avoid this is to research the physicians in your area and be sure that they have a high success rate and are without any withstanding lawsuits.

Another treatment for very deep pitted acne scars is a treatment called punch excision. This is a process that involves using a little tool that punches into the skin around the area of the pitt mark and raises the scar to be even with the rest of the skin. Punch excision is generally more expensive because it is treated per acne scar.

Other acne scar treatments include both light and deep chemical peels and dermabrasion. Consulting with a knowledgeable and experienced physician is your best bet in getting the right treatment for the type of pitted acne scars you have. There are many ways to get rid of the remnants of acne- another reason to be thankful for today’s modern science and technology.
